New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has been charged by Delhi Police’s Special Cell for disparaging National Commission for Women (NCW) chairman Rekha Sharma. This was announced by officials on Sunday. The Women’s Commission filed a complaint with Delhi Police on July 5th, leading to the filing of the FIR.
The Delhi Police Special Cell’s Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) team will look into the issue, according to media sources.
The Pajama Comment: On July 4, Rekha Sharma, the chief of NCW, traveled to Hathras to speak with the injured women from the devastating stampede that left 121 people dead. In the video, she was joined by a person who had an umbrella over her.
Many social media users responded to the video by questioning why the NCW chief was unable to carry her own umbrella.
TMC MP Moitra made a contentious remark about Sharma in response to one such tweet, stating, “She is too busy holding her boss’s pajama.” The NCW is frequently accused by opposition parties of being employed by the BJP-led NDA government.
The FIR was filed on July 5 as a result of the commission’s harsh condemnation of Moitra’s “insulting, rude” remarks and its call for severe action against her.
Rekha Sharma’s Reaction: In a sharp response to Moitra’s remark, Rekha Sharma referred to the TMC MP as a “troll.” “She has no interest in her work, she is busy trolling people, and I don’t waste my time on trolls,” Sharma stated, criticizing Moitra. Sharma further explained the occurrence, saying that because of the throng and her involvement in it, she didn’t ask for an umbrella and didn’t even aware someone was holding it.
Regarding Moitra’s remark, Sharma also wrote to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora and Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla.
Unfazed by the FIR, Moitra retaliated by challenging Delhi Police to take her into custody in Nadia, West Bengal. Moitra said, “Come on @DelhiPolice, please act immediately on these suo motu orders,” in response to the NCW’s tweet on X. If you need someone to quickly arrest me within the next three days, I’m in Nadia. I am able to carry my own parasol.
Later on X, Moitra published a series of previous remarks made by Rekha Sharma on different leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, Sonia Gandhi, and Lalu Prasad. Sharma was called a “serial offender” and a FIR was demanded against her.
