On Thursday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in New Delhi after concluding his two-nation tour, which included stops in Russia and Austria. After his trip, PM Modi posted on X to congratulate the Chancellor, administration, and people of Austria and expressed gratitude for their warm hospitality. He described the visit as “historic” and very productive. “My visit to Austria has been very productive and historic. The friendship between our countries has gained new momentum. I am pleased to have witnessed various events in Vienna. Thank you to the Austrian government, people, and Chancellor @karlnehammer for their kindness and hospitality,” PM Modi wrote on X.

On Wednesday, at a community event in Vienna, PM Modi announced that the long-awaited moment of commemorating the 75-year relationship between the two countries had finally arrived.

He expressed his appreciation and happiness for the warm welcome, acknowledging that this was a historic occasion as he was the first Indian Prime Minister to visit here in 41 years.

Upon entering the stage at the community event, chants of “Modi, Modi” filled the air. The event showcased the close ties between India and its diaspora, with the community giving PM Modi a warm welcome.

Following this, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer thanked all the teams that worked hard to make PM Modi’s state visit to here successful. In a post on X, Chancellor Nehammer acknowledged the dedication and effort of many individuals and groups, including the Federal Army, police, protocol officers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and many others behind the scenes. He expressed gratitude for their efficient preparation, coordination, and execution of the visit.

Chancellor Nehammer remarked, “Achieving the success of such an important state visit by @narendramodi to hererequires weeks of dedicated effort from numerous individuals.On the day of the visit, hundreds more people get involved.”
“A heartfelt thank you to the Federal Army, police, protocol teams, @MFA_Austria, @bkagvat, and all the behind-the-scenes contributors for their expert preparation, meticulous coordination, and seamless execution of the visit. I am grateful,” he added.

PM Modi and Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer both appreciated the tradition of cultural exchange and noted that Austrians are increasingly interested in Ayurveda and Yoga.

Both leaders recognized the importance of skill development and the need for trained workers to be mobile to facilitate greater participation in high-tech industries.

Austria and India will cooperate on sustainability, with a focus on green hydrogen. According to the PMO, both leaders endorsed the operationalization of the bilateral migration and mobility agreement, which provides an institutional framework to support such exchanges while also preventing irregular migration.

Notably, to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new avenues of cooperation between India and Austria, PM Modi had significant discussions with Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen and Chancellor Nehammer. Additionally, PM Modi emphasized his discussions with business leaders from both countries.

“I met with Austrian and Indian business leaders. They emphasized mutual trust in strengthening economic ties, saying, ‘Our nations are confident in leveraging the many opportunities ahead to promote commercial and trade relations,'” PM Modi remarked.

On June 9, PM Modi arrived in Vienna for a one-day state visit in the evening, having met with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a two-day official visit to Moscow earlier in the day.

The Prime Minister added, “Many of you may not know that India and Austria are celebrating 75 years of their friendship.” Meanwhile, hundreds of Indian residents in the European country chanted “Modi-Modi” and waved national flags with patriotic fervor, echoing throughout the community hall. India and Austria are situated on opposite ends of the geographical spectrum.
